Book

Im looking for the best (pocket) field guide to minerals and rock money can buy. I have two demands: Lots of minerals and rocks and lots of color photos. I dont need a lot of scientific information on each mineral. I want it for in-the-field identication purpose only.

Please help me.

  1. This one is my favorite, although some of the mineral photos tend to be pretty ones of Smithsonian samples rather than in-the-field identification photos.

  2. Peterson Field Guide to Rock & Minerals. The ISBN is 0-395-91096-x and it is published by Houghton Mifflin www.houghtonmifflinbooks.com. I use it in all my undergrad classes. Half the book is science stuff, but the other half is full-color pics and gorgeous ones too! And it’s under $20 :) I wore my first one out, so I had to go buy another one over the summer.
